There may be one more variable in choosing an electricity contract – “You have to think”

The planned new power fee for Finnish electricity users will not remove the incentives to use a stock exchange electricity contract, estimates the energy company Helen’s portfolio management group manager Juho Kinni Directly from Kauppalehti In the Talousamau program on Friday.

“But there is one more variable. Then you have to think about whether your interest is at a level where you can optimize or whether a more solid solution is a better option for you,” Kinni said.

In recent years, many Finns have learned to schedule their electricity consumption for the cheapest hours with the spread of exchange electricity contracts. A new power fee for many detached houses would encourage Kinn again by just in the other direction, i.e. to use electricity more evenly. With the help of the intended payment, electricity network owners and electricity network companies could charge an additional price if electricity consumption exceeds a certain power during a period of a quarter of an hour.

The power fee is planned to enter into force in 2029. The opinion round ended last November.

According to Kinn, when choosing an electricity contract, you should generally take your own situation into account.

“If you value carelessness and certainty in your everyday life, a fixed-price electricity contract is still an option,” Kinni said.

He stated that consumers generally have a good situation to the extent that the range of different electricity contracts has grown: in addition to night and day electricity and one fixed price, there are exchange electricity, fixed price and various hybrid contracts in between.

“Of course, it takes more dedication the more you go for a flexible price contract,” Kinni reflected.
