Europe is waiting with anticipation: Trump is on his way to Davos to give a speech on Greenland

US President Donald Trump has landed in Zurich and is expected to arrive in Davos soon, to deliver a speech for which the whole of Europe is eagerly awaiting. In recent days, Trump has increased the height of the flames surrounding his confrontation with Europe, demanding control of the Danish island of Greenland. He also imposed heavy tariffs on eight European countries that he believed acted against the US and promised to enforce them until Greenland was officially transferred to the US. Trump was supposed to to give a speech at 3:30 p.m. (Israel time), but the “Air Force 1” plane on which he took off last night had to return to Washington due to an electrical fault. Trump flew in a replacement plane, and the speech will likely be delayed.

Trump returned to the World Economic Forum after six years of absence and he came at the head of a very large delegation of government officials and businessmen. The Americans rented a local church to serve as the American pavilion, and Trump is expected to hold bilateral meetings there as well as business promotion events. He himself is supposed to stay at a luxury hotel near Davos, with an entourage of about 300 staff members. Tomorrow (Thursday) Trump is expected to launch the “Peace Council” he initiated in connection with the cease-fire agreement in Gaza, even though a number of European countries rejected the invitation to join it.

The European leaders are trying to return to the policy of reconciliation

While French President Emmanuel Macron reprimanded Trump for his claim that he had ended eight wars and called on the European Union not to be afraid to use its “economic bazooka” in favor of retaliatory sanctions on the United States, the rest of the European leaders are trying to return to the policy of reconciliation and avoided harsh criticism of the president. The German Chancellor, the leaders of the Union and other leaders said that they are determined to show Trump that NATO is capable of taking care of the security of Greenland, the reasoning on behalf of The US is trying to annex the big island.

Against the backdrop of the renewal of protective tariffs, the trade war and economic uncertainty, the prices of gold and silver broke records in trading in the last three days, the dollar lost nearly 1% yesterday against the euro and the American stock market also recorded its worst trading day since October. Trump announced that he would use the meeting in Davos to “discuss Greenland”, but Denmark announced that it would boycott the meeting, because it does not approve of holding any discussions about its sovereignty.
