Finns’ deposits rose to an all-time high

Finns household deposits rose to their highest level ever in November 2025, according to the Bank of Finland.

Households had a total of EUR 115.7 billion in deposits at the end of November, according to the statistics of the Bank of Finland.

In November, the deposit base grew by 4.3 percent year-on-year. At the same time, interest rates on deposits have dropped significantly. The average interest rate on deposits was 0.8 percent at the end of November, which was 0.49 percentage points lower than a year ago.

Deposits grew in all deposit forms. Most of the deposits, EUR 70.7 billion, or 61 percent, were overnight deposits, i.e. in current accounts. There were 29.4 billion euros in investment deposits and 15.7 billion euros in time deposits.

In January-November 2025, households increased their overnight deposits the most, a total of 3.5 billion euros. 1.4 billion euros were invested in investment deposits and 700 million euros in time deposits.

Companies also increased their deposits. At the end of November, the company’s deposit stock was 46.7 billion euros and its annual growth rate was 4.7 percent. In November, companies concluded a large number of new fixed-term deposit contracts, for 1.9 billion euros. The number is 52 percent more than a year ago.

Deposits interest rates have decreased with the reductions in the European Central Bank’s policy rate. The average interest rate on term deposits was 1.98 percent in November, compared to 3.09 percent a year ago.

The average interest rate for new term deposit contracts fell from 2.98 percent to 2.19 percent. At the end of November, the household mortgage portfolio was EUR 105.9 billion.

The annual growth of the housing loan stock was negative, −0.1 percent. In November, new mortgages totaled EUR 1.20 billion, which is EUR 108 million less than a year ago.
