STOCK EXCHANGE: Intel plunges on Wall Street

In the United States, the main stock indexes opened lower on Friday. The S&P 500 index is on its way to its first two-week decline since last June, the news agency Bloomberg reports.

There is currently a wait-and-see and cautious atmosphere in the market. Geopolitical tensions have so far subsided when the US president Donald Trump ruled out military means to acquire Greenland.

Despite everything, almost 17 billion dollars of capital left the US stock market during the week, according to Bloomberg.

The week was exceptionally favorable for gold, as the precious metal is on its way to its biggest weekly gain since 2020.

Small companies, on the other hand, lagged behind the general market index. This broke their strong run during which they had outperformed the overall index for as many as 14 days, Bloomberg reports.

The technology sector saw exceptionally large movements, when Intel’s share price collapsed by as much as 14 percent, weighed down by weak profit guidance and ongoing production difficulties. This was the highest daily decline since August 2024.

The company is currently suffering from low manufacturing yields, i.e. the share of usable chips produced by the factories is too small. Managing director Lip-Bu Tan emphasized in the investor call that turning the company’s direction is a multi-year journey that requires time and determination.

Intel has been the cornerstone of the US administration’s chip policy and the biggest beneficiary of subsidies aimed at reviving domestic production. So the course had already had time to accumulate some growth expectations.

However, Nvidia was up 1.6 percent after China allowed local technology companies to prepare orders for Nvidia’s new H200 artificial intelligence chips.
