2023, the year of an economic storm

The online fish store, which has just crossed the threshold of 30,000 customers, has thus finished weathering the storm suffered in 2023. “During this period, production costs increased while our orders decreased,” recalls Charles Guirriec. Fish is the first food item on which people saved money. “.

Forced to lay off workers, he who had hired in 2020 during Covid when orders had tripled as had turnover, which rose to more than 3 million in one year, the Bordeaux resident is one of the few not to have gone under. “Between 10 and 15 of our relay points, organic stores or local products, then closed every week. We lost many customers as a result. »

“Earn more to fish less”

Since then, the storm has passed for those who defend “sustainable fishing, with nets, traps, lines, without impact on the seabed and which allows fishermen to earn more for fishing less”. Nearly 250 of them have already embarked on the adventure, “and we hire one more for every 80 new registrants. »

In 2024, the company had regained 30% of subscribers in 2 months and regained economic balance. His participation in the show was intended to “improve cash flow to cope with hard times, such as the snow episode at the beginning of January. » Coming in the hope of raising 150,000 euros, Charles Guirriec left with double that and all of the show’s investors committed to his project. “Benefiting from all their experience will be valuable,” he confides, delighted.
