“Aggravated” man who beat his mother to death with a hammer in Wilrijk remains in jail: “He deeply regrets what happened”

52-year-old Mick P. lived with his mother Anita in Letterkundestraat, where his heart broke last Thursday. “Exhausted,” he described his condition to his interrogators in recent days. Living together, caring for his 70-year-old mother and the arguments about his computer use, he said, drove him to a fatal outburst of anger.

Last Thursday he attacked his mother with a hammer and beat her to death. He then went from their home in Letterkundestraat first to the police station in Doornstraat in Wilrijk and then to the one at Kielpark. There he told me that he had killed his mother. The police rushed to the scene of the crime but could no longer do anything for Anita, she had died. P. was arrested on suspicion of murder. According to our information, the man made a full statement and also showed investigators which route he took to get to the police station after the facts.

The man in his fifties appeared before the council chamber on Tuesday and his arrest was confirmed. P. will therefore remain in jail for at least another month, he will also be subjected to a psychiatric examination. “My client deeply regrets what happened,” says his lawyer Laurence Sweldens. “He is fully cooperating with the investigation.”
