Gold boom: price continues to climb, annual increase of 22 percent

In the past week and a half alone, the price has risen by almost $700, or almost 15 percent. Since the end of 2025, the price of gold has climbed around 22 percent, after rising 65 percent last year. Gold therefore remains one of the most sought-after asset classes.

Profit from falling dollar

Trump said on Tuesday evening that he was not worried about the current weakness of the dollar. The dollar then initially fell sharply. Since gold is predominantly traded in US currency, falling dollar prices usually lead to profits on the gold market.

Many central banks, such as the Chinese and Indian ones, have long been reacting to structural risks, political risks, sanctions and customs risks by buying gold, explains Stephen Innes from asset manager SPI Asset Management. There are also increasing concerns about escalating national debt.

Precious metals – especially gold – are considered by many investors to be “safe havens” in times of crisis. Silver is also an important industrial metal required for many applications related to AI, robotics and energy.
