Online shopping giant Amazon plans to cut 16,000 employees worldwide, reports financial media Bloomberg. The company aims to cut red tape as the artificial intelligence competition heats up.
The cuts concern Amazon’s administrative employees, of whom there are approximately 350,000 worldwide. The majority of Amazon’s employees work in the company’s warehouses. The surgeries do not apply to them.
US workers are given 90 days to look for a new role within Amazon. In addition, they receive severance pay and other support.
At issue is already the second major cut by Amazon in a few months. The company said in October reducing 14,000 employees.
The US media reported at the time that the online shopping giant would be cutting up to 30,000 employees over the course of several months.
Amazon also reduced approximately 27,000 employees at the turn of 2022–2023, Bloomberg reports.
