The Ministry of Transport has authorized Tesla to begin testing autonomous, supervised driving on Israeli roads, meaning that driving can be done by the car’s autonomous system, but the driver will be in the driver’s seat and can take control at any time.
According to A-Yom, the decision was made after discussing the issue with representatives of Tesla, employees of the automobile transport department, representatives of the tax department and other participants.
The Ministry of Transport emphasizes that “the tests will be a significant part of Minister Miri Regev’s work program to strengthen Israel’s status at the forefront of the development, testing and implementation of advanced transport technologies and to transform Israel into an international center for the development of smart technologies.”
