Fortum boss: These are the things the progress of the nuclear power project would require

CEO of Fortum Markus Rauramo told Kauppalehti live In the Talousamau program on Tuesday, under what conditions a new nuclear power project could become relevant for Fortum.

“The most important thing in new nuclear power is that there should be visibility into the fact that there is long-term customer demand. In other words, long electricity contracts are needed from large electricity consumers,” Rauramo said.

In addition to this, claims are related to the power plant itself.

“We need to find reactor types that we know how much their construction costs and how long it will take. After that, we need to find out how they would be financed.”

According to Rauramo, the states or the EU could, from Fortum’s point of view, offer risk sharing, i.e. in practice visibility into the stability of cash flows, loans and guarantees during construction.

“This allows for long construction times of up to 10-15 years so that these projects can be financed,” said Rauramo.
