A total of 200 thousand tax evaders discovered, 2.4 million letters arriving

“Last year we have intercepted more than 200 thousand total tax evaders between individuals and businesses: 57%, 60% of these had not actually submitted their tax return, while the remaining 40% were even subjects completely unknown to the tax authorities”. This was declared by the director of the Revenue Agency, Vincenzo Carbone, speaking on ‘Telefisco 2026’.

2.4 million letters arriving this year

“This year we will send over 2 million 400 thousand compliance lettersmost of the time we can identify them as reminders”, explained Carbone.
“A tranche of these letters may be addressed to those who forgot to submit the declaration,” he added. The director reiterated that “there is no automation of controls and there is certainly no generative artificial intelligence” and that “the Agency always analyzes all the information”.

Electronic invoicing data for faster payments

Starting from 2026, the Revenue-Collection Agency will use electronic invoicing data to facilitate and speed up third-party seizures and enhance collection, Carbone announced, recalling that the budget law “has introduced new tools to enhance collection, among these
the possibility of knowing the income on which a person or taxpayer can rely”.

Ader, he observed, “will be able to count on electronic invoicing data and this will certainly make it possible to make the management of the loads that are entrusted to the collection agent more efficient. I believe that this is an important event because it will allow us to avoid activities that could be unconsidered, not correctly calibrated, but go more in a specific direction, avoiding burdens for the taxpayer but also for the collection agent himself”.

“We are working and trying to set up tools which – he concluded – are aimed at creating the least possible inconvenience for the taxpayer, but at the same time protecting tax revenues which must always be managed with maximum efficiency”.
