Grupo Carso, owned by Carlos Slim Helú, confirmed the signing of a mixed contract with Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) for the development of the Macavil onshore field, located in the municipality of Huimanguillo, Tabasco, and announced that in the last quarter of the year a 7 percent discount on pending payments from the oil company was recognized.

“A mixed contract was recently signed for the development of the Macavil onshore field, which has proven reserves of 33.7 million barrels of condensate and 409.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas, thus strengthening collaboration with Pemex and advancing the promotion of national hydrocarbon production,” states the conglomerate’s fourth quarter 2025 report.

The award of the mixed contract was made through Zamajal, a subsidiary of the group that owns 49.90 percent of the shares of Talos Energy México, which in turn is developing the Zama megafield with Pemex.

According to statements made by a manager at a conference to present the quarterly results of the conglomerate owned by the richest man in the country, the first results are expected until 2027, as more exploration tasks still need to be done.

One of the last documents published by the defunct National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH), in October 2024, approved Pemex to carry out the first exploration well in the field.

It is one of the Pemex fields that concentrate the largest volume of natural gas within the 11 mixed development projects that Pemex presented last year.

Under the figure of mixed contracts, the company seeks to increase national hydrocarbon production. “Mixed contracts represent a modern, flexible and fully sovereign mechanism, aimed at guaranteeing compliance with national hydrocarbon production goals, as well as the long-term financial sustainability of Pemex,” the company said in its 2025-2035 Strategic Plan, presented in August of last year.

Slim Helú is the most important private partner of Pemex, since until July 2025 he disbursed 2 billion dollars for different projects related to the company (tinyurl.com/ms34vbuw).
