The opposition hopes that Mexico will do poorly in the T-MEC, regrets Ebrard

The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, maintained that the National Action Party (PAN), as well as other opposition groups, is betting that if the federal government does poorly in the review of the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), those political forces will do well.

“I think it is a very wrong bet, which I have heard from the National Action Party and others, in that the only possibility that they could grow is because we have difficulties with the United States. They say that in many forums, I am not saying something that is not known,” said the federal official.

By participating in the podcast weekly of the national leadership of Morena, stressed that reality is distant from the projections sought by the opposition. After pointing out that foreign investment has increased to reach “historic” levels, he stressed that “that climate or circumstance of defeat has not occurred, nor will it occur.”

Although he acknowledged that there will always be risks in any trade negotiation, he added that “we are in a good point after what we have experienced.”

After a year of the government of US President Donald Trump, the head of the SE highlighted that Mexico has the lowest tariff compared to that applied to other nations.

He stated that despite the opposition’s warnings about the supposed uncertainty and negative effects that the recent reform of the Judiciary would bring to investment, Mexico was unanimously endorsed as the headquarters of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) for 2028.
