Tnuva warned the chief rabbinate that imports of dairy products would hit kashrut

The rabbi of Israel’s largest dairy company, Tnuva, Ze’ev Wightman, on behalf of the company, addressed the Council of the Chief Rabbinate and the chairman of the kashrut committee, Rabbi Eliezer Simcha Weiss, with a warning against the dairy reform promoted by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

According to Wightman, the reform “will jeopardize the ability to supply megadrin kosher dairy products to the State of Israel.”

According to Wightman, there are regulatory aspects in the European dairy market “that will make it difficult to maintain kashrut in factories that will produce products for the kosher market in Israel.”

According to The Marker, members of the ultra-Orthodox factions are using Wightman’s arguments in the reform debate in the Knesset, without pointing out that he is a representative of the largest player in the market.
