Gerda was active in childcare, her neighborhood and various associations for many years. Ronald was an emergency nurse for decades and played an important role in disaster planning for, among others, Ghent University Hospital and the governor. Ronald was also strongly committed to the bond with the brotherhood community of Grossenkneten.

Gerda and Ronald are the proud parents of Timothy and Sarah, and proud grandparents of Mila and Manoe. They celebrated their anniversary leisurely, with a dinner and a reception at Wippelgem castle.
