Italo brings Starlink to trains: ultra-fast Wi-Fi on board

Italo will introduce the Starlink ultra-fast Internet connectionbecoming the first major railway company in the world to equip the entire train fleet with one reliable connectivity. The question of Wi-Fi connectivity on board high-speed trains has been a hot topic in an increasingly connected society for years: travelers on high-speed trains continue to work on boardto connect to meetings online or to use travel time to surf the web and watch films and TV series. Italo wanted to provide a reliable solution to millions of travellers, who will finally be able to navigate stably and quicklyguaranteeing a capillary and reactive network.

Test results and passenger satisfaction

After almost a year of tests on trains at 300 km/hStarlink has reached speeds up to beyond 400 Mpbs (megabits per second) and a low latency of 25 ms (milliseconds). Among the passengers who used Starlink (on the train on which the tests were being carried out), the85% declared themselves fully satisfied: On a rating scale of 0 to 5, 32.5% gave a score of 4 and over 51% gave a score of 5, the maximum score. Around 80% of passengers also rated their own browsing experience while using Starlink better than in the past.

Implementation and strategic vision

Italo will introduce Starlink on its fleet starting in mid-2026, concluding implementation in 2027. Starlink will provide a reliable connectivity and will transform the travel experience on high-speed trains, with seamless streaminggames and much more. This agreement represents the first step of a larger project aimed at expanding the multimedia services on board Italo. Throughout 2026, the entertainment options available to travelers will expand, allowing them to quickly and securely enjoy a wide range of innovative products and services thanks to the new connection.
