Histadrut declares labor dispute in aviation over Wizz Air’s arrival in Israel

The labor dispute will affect more than 11,000 workers at El Al, Israir and Air Haifa airlines, as well as at the Airports Authority, which operates Ben Gurion, Ramon and Haifa airports, as well as landing sites in Herzliya and Rosh Pina.

The Histadrut accuses the government of planning to establish Wizz Air’s base of operations in Israel without any consultation or coordination with Israeli aviation officials and their operating committees. This step, according to the union, is a direct blow to their employment and to the stability of the entire industry.

The union put forward the following demands:

– a demand to begin collective bargaining on the consequences of the opening of a Wizz Air base in Israel for working conditions, wages and workers’ rights, including their employment;

– the requirement to resolve the consequences of the opening of the Wizz Air base for the financial sustainability of Israeli airlines and the Airports Authority;

– a requirement to resolve the consequences of the opening of a Wizz Air base for ground handling (operational work on the ground) at the airport.

The Histadrut is considering steps that could be taken in the near future. Let us remind you that the law allows you to start a strike 14 days after the declaration of a labor conflict.
