Disengagement of Ryanair in France: should we be worried about Paris-Beauvais airport?

For three decades, Ryanair and Paris-Beauvais (Oise) have been almost one. During this period, the airport platform located 75 km north of Paris followed the growth of the Irish low-cost airline to gradually enter the ranking of the ten largest French airports. Last fall, after the government implemented the solidarity tax on plane tickets, Ryanair reduced its capacity in France by 13%, or around 750,000 fewer seats and 25 routes eliminated.

A decision which had an impact on Beauvais air traffic: one domestic destination is no longer served (Béziers), just like five others in Europe: Santander, Malaga and Zaragoza (Spain), Helsinki (Finland) and Riga (Latvia). That is to say a reduction in activity of 14%. One wonders whether we should be worried about a wider disengagement, when Ryanair represents 80% of the airport’s traffic…
