Telefónica Movistar México’s operating profitability increased 71.4%

Telefónica Movistar México’s operating profitability increased 71.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, the company reported in a statement.

EBITDA, which is an indicator that measures the operating profitability of companies, and the increase presented by the telecommunications firm was due to efficiencies in operating expenses.

“During 2025 we consolidate the implementation of our sustainable growth strategy as a telco digital, by closing the fourth quarter of 2025 with a growth of 71.4 percent in EBITDA,” highlighted Camilo Aya, president and CEO of Telefónica Movistar México in the statement.

A telco digital is a telecommunications operator that has transformed its traditional model (voice/data) to become a fully digital service provider, focused on customer experience through artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and automation. The purpose of this model is to offer agile operations, personalized services and simplify processes.

Telefónica Movistar México, a unit incorporated into Telefónica Hispanoamérica, mentioned that its EBITDA for all of 2025 was 128 million euros. However, lower dynamism in the commercialization of terminals reduced revenues by 8.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

At the end of last year, Movistar reported 21.7 million accesses, thanks to the growth of the postpaid business.

In turn, the company specified that during 2025 it obtained revenues of 1,127 million euros.

On the other hand, Camilo Aya highlighted that the company launched Planeta Movistar last October, a recycling program with which it seeks to raise awareness about the proper disposal of electrical and electronic waste.

“These efforts reaffirm our commitment to Mexico and to the construction of a more responsible, resilient and long-term oriented telecommunications sector, for the benefit of all users of mobile services,” commented the manager.

Overall negative result

On a global scale, the company had a net loss of 4.32 billion euros (around 5.8 billion dollars) in 2025, due to the expense involved in its job cuts plan and the sale of subsidiaries in Latin America.

The sales of its subsidiaries in Argentina, Peru, Uruguay and Ecuador generated operating losses of 2.27 billion euros.

In February of last year, Telefónica announced the sale of its subsidiary in Chile for $1,215 million. In November 2025, it confirmed that it is about to leave Mexico, where it offers services to 23 million customers under the Movistar brand.
