The separation of the agricultural business in a multinational advances

As indicated by the firm, the new company, called Basf Soluciones para la Agricultura, aims to enhance the value of the agricultural business, one of the most profitable and dynamic segments of the company.

The new structure will allow us to consolidate as a exclusive agricultural company, with global reach, higher levels of specialization and corporate governanceeither. However, BASF will continue as a majority shareholder, maintaining participation in the growth and value generation of the future company, as indicated in a recently released statement.

The separation has already begun in different regions and contemplates the creation of its own legal entities and a comprehensive reorganization of processes and structures. ANDn North America the transition has already been completedwhile in the rest of the markets it is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2027.

From Argentina, Leandro RegueiraSenior Manager of Technical Market Development at BASF, highlighted the magnitude of the process. “It is a very important year for the company on a global and local level. The business will specialize exclusively in agriculture, and that will bring significant changes in processes, structure and management,” he explained to Clarín Rural in the field day that the multinational carried out in Tandil.

As detailed, the transformation includes everything from adjustments in management to modifications in software and functional areas, with the objective of “giving specific value to the agricultural business.” In that sense, he stressed that it is “a historic opportunity”, since agriculture was one of the most profitable segments within the group.

“We are going to experience a transformation with a view 100% focused on agriculture. It is a leap in efficiency, zooming in on one of the company’s most valued businesses.a,” said Regueira, and stressed that the listing in Frankfurt will allow it to be given its own valuation in front of shareholders.

The executive highlighted that the new company will reinforce its strategy of position itself among the three main global players in the market.

In this roadmap, the business will continue to rely on crop protection, the firm’s historical DNA, but with strong momentum in seeds (it bought part of the portfolio from Bayer in 2018), digital tools (with the Xarvio platform) and in biologicals (it launched the first inoculant inoculant in solid format and bought the North American company AgBiTech).

With more than 150 years of history, BASF employs around 112,000 people worldwide and operates in virtually all industrial sectors. Its portfolio is divided into the segments of chemicals, materials and industrial solutions, among others.

In 2024, the BASF Group recorded sales of 65.3 billion euros. The Agricultural Solutions division invoiced 9.8 billion euros that same year and invested 919 million in research and developmentmaintaining one of the most solid R&D portfolios in the sector.
