“Economic activity is strongly penalized”: Oléron calls on owners to accommodate seasonal workers

The island of Oléron is calling on landlords! Every summer, hundreds of seasonal workers struggle to find accommodation due to a lack of sufficient accommodation suited to their budget. Consequence: “Economic activity is heavily penalized. In the absence of suitable solutions, many jobs remain vacant, thus weakening the key sectors of the territory,” warns the Oléron community of municipalities.

“To respond to this issue”, it is launching an appeal to owners able to rent a property or a room to young people aged 18 to 30. And, to reassure those ready to take the plunge, the island of Oléron has established a partnership with the CLLAJ.17 association (Local Committee for Independent Housing for Young People). The structure is responsible for “putting owners in touch with selected young workers who are serious and in line with each person’s rental project”.

The association also relies on adapted systems (Visale guarantee, orientation towards appropriate leases) to “secure rental” while guiding owners and tenants in their administrative procedures.

Hotel residence, studios and dedicated foyer

In 2027, the island of Oléron also intends to inaugurate a social hotel residence (RHVS). With nearly 80 accommodations, notably reserved for seasonal workers or apprentices, it will be built on the site of the former Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron gendarmerie.

Other projects are flourishing here and there as the lack of housing dedicated to seasonal workers penalizes the summer economy in Oléron. In Saint-Denis-d’Oléron, around twenty studios are expected, while a center for young workers is due to open its doors in Dolus-d’Oléron.
