Histadrut demands that the Ministry of Finance urgently decide on compensation

Against the backdrop of a sharp drop in business activity after the start of Operation Lion’s Roar, the acting chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions (Histadrut), Roi Yaakov, demanded that Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich immediately convene an emergency meeting and launch an agreed mechanism for the financial protection of workers and entrepreneurs.

According to Yaakov, the events of recent days have already dealt a significant blow to the labor market. Preventive actions by the army and strict instructions from the Department of Logistics led to the virtual stoppage of a large part of economic activity.

As a result, millions of citizens were unable to go to work, and employers faced direct losses. “We need a clear and agreed plan that will restore confidence to millions of Israeli families,” Roi Yaakov emphasized in a letter to Bezalel Smotrich. He warned that ongoing uncertainty could develop into a protracted crisis if the government does not take swift steps.

The head of the Histadrut called for the immediate approval of compensation that would ensure the payment of wages to workers and compensation for losses to employers, as well as the creation of a transparent and permanent mechanism for economic support.
