La Jornada: GDP will grow 1.5% in 2026: Citi survey

Despite global uncertainty, the growth prospects of the Mexican economy for this year continue to rise. Financial sector specialists consulted by Citi Mexico raised their forecast for GDP growth from 1.4 to 1.5 percent.

The economists consulted by the financial consortium see a stronger peso against the dollar and the Bank of Mexico (BdeM) applying a cut of a quarter of a percentage point to the reference rate this month, from 7 to 6.75 percent.

The Citi Mexico Expectations Survey is prepared every 15 days based on information provided by economic studies areas of banks, brokerage firms and consulting firms, among other institutions.

According to the document, the financial firms with the highest projection of economic activity growth are BBVA, Bankaool and Banorte, with an estimate of 1.8 percent, and the one with the most negative projection is Scotiabank, which foresees an increase of 0.6 percent.

Regarding the exchange rate, specialists expect that at the end of the year the peso will be at 18.18 dollars; 15 days ago they expected that it would end at 18.20 pesos.

Regarding inflation, experts anticipate that it will close the year at 4 percent, as in the previous survey.

Specialists anticipate that at the end of the year the reference rate will be 6.5 percent, which would imply another downward adjustment.
