STOCK EXCHANGE: Analyst warns: The situation is far from stable – Wall Street opened to a decline

Wall Street’s stock markets opened to a gentle decline on Tuesday. Wall Street’s broad-based S&P 500 index was down 0.3 percent after the stock market opened, and the technology-focused Nasdaq was close to the level of the previous day’s closing price.

The Dow Jones index was down 0.3 percent.

It was still expected in the morning that Wall Street would open to a clear rise on Tuesday, as stock markets around the world had recovered during the day from the plunge caused by Monday’s sudden rise in oil prices.

In the beginning of the week, exceptionally large movements were seen in the price of oil, when on Monday the price of Brent grade reached up to 120 dollars per barrel. Since then, the price has dropped around $90 and remained close to it during Tuesday.

However, index futures turned to a clear decline after the country’s defense minister Pete Hegseth announced on Tuesday that the country would strike Iran most strongly today. The minister says that the United States will not stop its military operations until Iran is finally defeated.

“The market’s reaction to the drop in oil prices has been positive, but the ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the background keeps the situation anything but stable and makes the market vulnerable to new fluctuations”, Forex.com analyst Fawad Razaqzada evaluates market sentiments for the news agency Bloomberg.

From the biggest companies, for example Nvidia’s, Tesla’s and Methane rates were up by about one percent.

Semiconductor manufacturer TSMC (+2.2%) said sales increased by 30 percent during the first two months of the year as a result of the continued growth in artificial intelligence demand.

Telecom operator AT&T says it plans to spend more than $250 billion in the United States over five years to expand its network infrastructure. The company’s share was up 0.5 percent.

Later in the evening, the market’s eyes will turn Oracleenwhen the company publishes its December-February results. Investors’ attention is focused above all on the financing of the company’s artificial intelligence-related investments and the return expectations of the company’s artificial intelligence strategy.

Oracle’s share was down about one percent.
