The consumer ombudsman takes Elisa to the market court again

In Elisa’s campaign, the lowest 30-day price required by law was not announced in connection with phone offers.

Telecom operator Elisa’s Etuhinta campaign has been submitted to the market court for evaluation.

In the campaign, the 30-day lowest price required by law was not announced in connection with phone offers. The consumer ombudsman demands a ban on the procedure under the threat of a fine of 200,000 euros.

The Competition and Consumer Agency (KKV) informs about this in its press release.

According to Elisa, the Etuhinta campaign is not about a price reduction announcement, but about pricing for regular customers.

However, according to KKV, the consumer was able to take advantage of the cheaper price by logging in or creating credentials in Elisa’s online store. This was possible for all consumers without commitments or previous customership.

Since the preferential price was marketed to practically all consumers and anyone could take advantage of it, according to the opinion of the consumer representative, it was not targeted loyalty marketing where the 30-day lowest price can be left unannounced.

SME has previously intervened in Elisa’s similar marketing. In June of last year, the consumer ombudsman took the operator’s Haukatut Hinnat campaign and Black Friday marketing to the market court.

Even then, the reason was that Elisa did not comply with the required 30-day lowest price.

At the beginning of February The Market Court banned the marketing in question under the threat of a fine of 50,000 euros.
