Is your office chair killing you? Find out how to work on the move

At 34, Clémentine Troubat, experience representative at Livementor, lives to the rhythm of videos, meetings, calls… At the office or teleworking at her home in Chanteloup-les-Vignes (Yvelines), she therefore spends a lot of time sitting. Aware of the risks to her health of this sedentary lifestyle, the young mother decided to transform her meetings and other static videos into opportunities to move. “When I attend a video in which I am not actively involved, I put on my headphones and go out for 3 or 4 walks around the block,” she confides. In her kitchen, she opted for a treadmill installed in front of her raised bar. “I set the machine between 1.5 and 2.5 km/hour in order to walk while listening to the video and taking notes,” she explains. The result is clear: less back and shoulder pain, and better sleep.

If Clémentine Troubat and her colleagues at Livementor have decided to fight against their sedentary lifestyle at work, it is because they are aware that, like 37% of adults, spending 8 hours sitting (excluding sleep, ANSES 2022 figure) behind a screen, in meetings… is not good for your health. “According to the WHO, a sedentary lifestyle is the fourth leading cause of mortality in the world. But the first factor in preventable mortality. It alters our physical, cognitive, mental and social capacities,” warns Alexandre Dana, co-author of the work. The chair kills. The urgency to move more during a working day is therefore very real. And for this, there is no need to rearrange the offices or even completely review the organization of your company. No. Simple solutions to implement exist.
