Thousands of employees received an email: you are fired starting today

Oracle employed 162 thousand workers as of May 2025. The company’s stock lost 25% this year, more than all the giant companies in the field. According to estimates published in the US, thousands of employees received the layoff notice, with the overall goal being to fire 20,000-30,000 employees in total. Employees who spoke to Business Insider said they received an email notification and were immediately blocked from the company’s internal system.

The cuts are the latest example of a dramatic reduction in the number of employees in technology companies in recent times. in January, Amazon announced that it would cut about 16,000 jobs, months after it fired 14,000 workers. Microsoft announced last year that it would eliminate about 15,000 jobs. “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change,” the layoff email, which was seen by Business Insider, read. “As a result, today is your last day of work.” An Oracle spokesman declined to comment on the layoffs. Oracle offered the fired employees four weeks of base salary and one more week for each additional year of employment up to 26 weeks as severance pay.
