According to Nokia, the companies have used its technologies without approval.
Nokia announces that it is suing Amazon, known for its online store and streaming service, for the unauthorized use of video technologies. The news agencies Reuters and Bloomberg report on the matter, among others.
Separately, Nokia said in its announcementthat it is also suing HP, which manufactures computers, among other things, because of video technologies.
In its press release, Nokia highlights examples of the technologies it has been developing. These include personalization technologies related to content recommendations and technologies related to screen rotation.
However, the release does not directly say that Amazon or HP have violated the rights to use these technologies.
“We have negotiated with Amazon and HP for several years, but sometimes litigation is the only way to respond to companies that refuse to play by the rules followed and respected by others,” a Nokia representative Arvin Patel said in the release.
Nokia filed lawsuits against Amazon in India, Britain, Germany, and the United States, among others. The lawsuit filed against HP, on the other hand, is located in the United States.
In June, Nokia announced that it had concluded a patent license agreement. The value of the contract has not been made public.
