A contract was signed by the transmission system operators (TSOs) of Slovenia and Serbia, ELES and Elektromrea Srbije (EMS), and EPEX SPOT to launch the first regional power exchange in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

The first regional power exchange for Central and South-Eastern Europe will be established, according to a joint announcement from ELES, EMS, and EPEX SPOT.

The three companies announced in a press release that the recently established Alpine-Adriatic Danube Power Exchange, or ADEX, will provide standardized one-stop-shop spot power trading services in Slovenia and Serbia with the intention of expanding the business and services to other nations in the Central and South-Eastern European (CSEE) region.

Additionally, the deal calls for the combination of BSP Southpool and SEEPEX.

Delivering a new, standardized intraday market in Serbia and coupling the important Serbian day-ahead market with the pan-European Single DayAhead Coupling will also be among ADEX’s short-term milestones (SDAC).

ELES, EMS, and EPEX SPOT will each hold one share of ADEX, while the deal calls for the merger of BSP Southpool and SEEPEX.

Equal shares of ADEX will be owned by EPEX SPOT, ELES, and EMS.

According to a news statement, EPEX SPOT and TSOs ELES and EMS will serve as founding owners of the recently founded power exchange ADEX, which will have its corporate headquarters in Ljubljana and its primary permanent offices there and in Belgrade.

Additionally, extensive discussions with MAVIR, the Hungarian TSO, are being held by ELES, EMS, and EPEX SPOT.

Talks about HUPX joining ADEX are in progress.

András Biczók, CEO of Mavir, states, “We are working closely with our partners for HUPX, the Hungarian Power Exchange, to join ADEX shortly.

To advance the integration of spot electricity markets in Central and South-Eastern Europe, the initiative is still open to any other partners that choose to join ADEX.

The merger’s conclusion will depend on receiving all necessary statutory and regulatory clearances.
Anyone interested in participating in this adventure is welcome to do so.

According to Aleksander Mervar, CEO of ELES and President of ELES Group, “we enhance the trading culture in our region by delivering the highest trading standards, cutting-edge technical solutions, great exchange services, transparency, and innovation.”

According to Jelena Mateji, general manager of EMS, this outstanding accomplishment will foster the growth of the local electricity market and serve as a progressive, sustainable example for other CSEE nations interested in joining this cutting-edge commercial infrastructure.

Danielski: Speeding up the region’s much-needed deployment of market coupling

“ADEX will provide the CESE community with best-in-class trading and clearing tools and support the creation of liquidity during these unique times. To complete the integration of spot markets across Europe, we anticipate accelerating the deployment of market coupling in this area, according to Ralph Danielski, CEO of EPEX SPOT.

Ane Predovnik, CEO of BSP Southpool, stated that the cooperation with SEEPEX and EPEX is the first step to adapting and preparing for additional challenges at the level of the power exchanges because the business environment in the area is changing significantly.

Mladenovi: ADEX will also strengthen SEEPEX’s status as the front-runner.

Everyone who is interested in our future development is welcome to join us on this journey, he continued.

“From the start, SEEPEX was a cutting-edge pan-European success story in the SEE region. The new ADEX environment will also help us maintain our leadership position going forward, Milo Mladenovi, CEO of SEEPEX, emphasized.
