Up to 72 euros per ticket: Lufthansa increases prices due to transition to environmentally friendly fuel

The German airline Lufthansa announced an increase in prices for tickets purchased after June 26 for flights after December 31, 2024 due to the imminent entry into force of a new European regulation forcing airlines to switch to more environmentally friendly fuel.

Tickets for short and medium flights will increase in price by 5-7 euros, depending on the class, tickets for long-haul flights – by 18-72 euros, depending on the class.

The price increase will affect all airlines of the holding, including Eurowings, Swiss Air, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.

Under an EU directive coming into force, airlines must use 2% of the environmentally friendly fuel SAF, which is five times more expensive than jet fuel, from 2025, and increase its use to 70% by 2050
