The Italian Prime Minister drives a wedge into the heart of the EU’s traditional cooperation

EU leaders will meet in Brussels on Thursday to decide who will be allowed to lead the European Union for the next five years.

The discussion is ostensive, because in principle the agreement has already been made in a small circle. It remains to be seen how complicated the prime minister of the EU’s third largest country can make the choices of the top politicians. The name game of the top launderers has been tentatively agreed upon in the old, so-called constructive majority, which has had a positive attitude towards the EU project. The growth of Melon and his group to the third largest shows that EU policy making may no longer be successful with the old pop pool.

Continuation of the old line is also difficult due to the national elections of the member countries: the elections held in France on Sunday predict a victory for the far-right National Alliance, whose MEPs opposed, for example, the support package for Ukraine.

On the other hand, the traditional majority also hears gravelly voices: Poland, which uses a lot of gas and coal, wants to negotiate facilitations for the already approved expansion of the emissions trading system.

The President of the Commission will have a full job to hold Europe together.
