Energy regulator takes legal action against Fluvius over IT issues

In November 2021, Fluvius launched Atrias together with the other Belgian grid operators: a central database that should make the exchange of data on your energy consumption and your invoice with the energy suppliers smoother. But due to a software error, the database is not working properly and there are still many complaints.

At the moment, the EAN numbers — a code consisting of 18 digits that identifies your delivery point — of 21,785 Flemish households and SMEs have been blocked for weeks or even months. For 3,701 of them, this has even been the case for more than half a year.

“We have established that Fluvius has not evolved to a normal situation,” says VREG spokesperson Barbara Janssens. “The deadline of 30 June has passed. We are now going to take legal action,” she says. It is not clear whether this involves fines or penalty payments. “Lawyers are now considering this. Clarity will be provided early next week,” says Janssens.

In a response to HLN, Fluvius said it had not yet been informed of the steps involved.
