Iran proposes SCO countries to introduce single currency

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit taking place in Astana, Acting President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mokhber proposed that SCO countries discuss the introduction of a single currency.

“One of the most important steps aimed at strengthening the role of the SCO in the world and in the region could be strengthening economic cooperation between the members of the association. This area includes expanding the use of national currencies or creating a common currency,” said the politician, quoted by TASS.

According to him, the SCO should play a key role in strengthening the factor of regional multilateralism. “One of the most important ways of this kind is the North-South transit corridor, the activation of which is at the top of our agenda,” he added.
