Vietjet and the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed a cooperation agreement to enhance air connectivity in the capital Vientiane, July 11.
The signing ceremony took place within the framework of President To Lam’s state visit to Laos, at the invitation of Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.
Under the agreement, Vietjet and Laos will carry out civil aviation projects, expand commercial operations, and exploit the country. Both sides pledged to create 2,500 new jobs for the Lao aviation industry.
Vietjet Aviation Academy will be responsible for training personnel according to international standards, while the airline will also establish an independent technical maintenance (MRO) facility in Laos. As a partner, the Lao Civil Aviation Authority will support administrative procedures, legal procedures, facilities, and act as a bridge with other agencies to help the project achieve its goals.
Vietjet representatives said that the efforts to increase connectivity above can help locals and tourists have the opportunity to fly at economical costs, experience superior services, thereby contributing to socio-economic development, enhancing trade, connecting tourism and cultural exchange between Laos and countries in the region.
The Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport highly appreciated Vietjet’s contributions and capacity. They said that the signing of the aviation development cooperation agreement is in line with the common goals and orientations agreed upon by the two governments in the “Memorandum of Understanding on Transport Cooperation Strategy for the 2016-2025 period”.
Last year, Vietjet launched a regional aircraft maintenance center, jointly operated by Vietjet and Lao Airlines, under the management of the Vietnam-Laos Aviation Administration. Earlier this year, the airline launched a route connecting Vientiane, Laos, with Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations in 1962. Vietnam is currently one of Laos’ largest investors and trade partners, with 255 investment projects in the country with a total capital of 5.5 billion USD, especially in the fields of transportation, tourism, science and technology.
