Tesla postpones robot taxi presentation

American electric car manufacturer Tesla is postponing the presentation of its long-awaited fully self-driving robot taxi, financial news agency Bloomberg reports, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

The unveiling was supposed to take place on August 8, but that has been postponed to October. The teams working on the autonomous driving shared car would have more time to work out different prototypes, it is said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the unveiling of his robot taxi months ago. The design is internally prioritized over the arrival of a cheaper Tesla model.

If successful, this could make a significant contribution to future profitability, but analysts have previously expressed doubts about its feasibility. Not least because of the regulatory hurdles. On Wall Street, Tesla shares fell more than 8 percent after news of the postponement.
