Unilever plans to cut a third of all office jobs in Europe

Unilever plans to cut a third of all office jobs in Europe by the end of next year, or around 3,200 jobs, according to the Financial Times based on a video message from HR director Constantina Tribou, which the business newspaper was able to watch.

The originally Dutch-British food manufacturer announced in March that it would cut around 7,500 jobs worldwide to save costs. At the time, it was not yet known where exactly the jobs would disappear.

Those plans are currently being discussed, the company said in a statement. “In March, we announced the launch of a comprehensive productivity program to drive focus and growth through a leaner, more accountable organization. In the coming weeks, we will begin consulting with employees who may be affected by the proposed changes.”

Unilever employs approximately 128,000 people worldwide. The company employs 10,000 to 11,000 office workers in Europe. It is not yet clear where the jobs will be cut in Europe. According to the Financial Times still to be determined by the multinational.
