A gas leak in Pavia disrupts rail traffic

Circulation is still suspended on the Milan – Pavia – Stradella and Milan – Genoa lines due to a gas leak in a road adjacent to the tracks near Pavia. This was announced by FS, adding that “the suspension of railway circulation was ordered late this morning by the Prefect of Pavia. The current reopening forecast, received from the competent authorities, is for this evening”. “The intervention of the Fire Brigade is still ongoing – reads a note – Intercity and Regional trains are subject to route limitations and cancellations. Some Intercity trains travel the alternative route via Piacenza with inevitable lengthening of travel times and do not stop in Pavia. Travellers on regional trains, which do not travel between Milan and Genoa, are authorised, without any additional charge, to use trains via Turin. Trenitalia invites you, where possible, to reschedule your trip. Details on the changes can be found in the Indomibilità section of the Trenitalia.com website”.

An open gas leak near the tracks has caused delays of up to 100 minutes and train cancellations on the Pavia railway line. Ld reti and Asm technicians and the Fire Brigade are working to replace an 18-inch pipe in Viale della Repubblica but the disruption will continue. Excavations on the low-pressure gas pipe began at 1 pm, after the alarm was raised, with roads closed within a radius of 300 metres and around twenty people evacuated from two council houses. Train traffic has been interrupted in Pavia on the Milan-Genoa line since 11:40 am, on a weekend of heavy travel. Trenitalia has reported that High Speed, Intercity and Regional trains may experience delays and some trains have been moved to alternative routes. Departing passengers affected can use the replacement service with a specially prepared bus and contact Trenitalia Customer Service staff. The gas leak was apparently caused by fibre optic work which damaged a gas pipe.
