Moderation on the X platform: can Europe make Elon Musk bend?

Names have been flying this week on the platform once symbolized by a small blue bird. On Monday, August 12, the European Commissioner for Digital Affairs, Thierry Breton, warned Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), a few hours before his interview with Donald Trump, reminding him of the moderation obligations on the social network to avoid “the amplification of dangerous content.” The person concerned responded with one of those crude memes that he likes, inviting the political leader… to go to hell.

This standoff between Thierry Breton and Elon Musk over the moderation of his own content posted on X has actually been going on for months. Because, between two publications on the technical prowess of his SpaceX rockets, Elon Musk happily comments on world news and shares his opinions with his more than 194 million followers on X. But the American billionaire often forgets to check the veracity of his information before spreading it.
