The Haifa Magistrates’ Court has ordered Bank Hapoalim to return NIS 87,840 to a 90-year-old client living in social housing that her caregiver illegally withdrew from her account using a credit card.

The court ruled that the bank was negligent in failing to identify unusual transactions in the elderly client’s account and failing to notify her of them.

At the same time, the court ruled that the caregiver would have to return to the bank the entire amount paid by the bank to the client. Thus, the bank’s lawyers would deal with the theft directly with the caregiver’s lawyers, while the client would get her money back.
