Metso starts change negotiations – 560 people are involved in the negotiations

Engineering company Roots start change negotiations.

Change negotiations on layoffs concern all functions and personnel of the stone crushing business in Finland. All in all, around 560 people are covered by the negotiations.

The possible need for layoffs is a maximum of 90 days, and the layoffs would take place during the end of 2024 and spring 2025.

According to the company, the Tampere factory’s order backlog is low and finished goods stocks are at a high level. According to the company, the autumn season is a quieter time in the stone crushing business, so a rapid improvement in demand in the rest of the year is not expected. In addition, globally, demand for mobile devices in particular has been low, and distributors’ high inventory levels in North America reduce the need for new machines.

“Due to the situation, the company needs to adapt capacity to the temporary reduction in workload and make cost savings,” the announcement states.

The negotiation period is at least two weeks from the submission of the negotiation proposal, unless otherwise agreed during the negotiations. Decisions on possible layoffs will be made shortly after the end of the negotiations.
