Yeah1 CEO receives billions in salary thanks to the show ‘Brother overcoming thousands of obstacles’

In the first half of this year, Yeah1 CEO Ngo Thi Van Hanh received 1.5 billion VND when the show “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” was successful.

In its audited semi-annual consolidated financial report, Yeah1 Group Joint Stock Company (YEG) said it paid a total of VND1.5 billion in income and remuneration to Ms. Ngo Thi Van Hanh – General Director and member of the Board of Directors, double that of the same period last year. On average, Ms. Hanh receives about VND250 million per month.

This CEO is one of two Yeah1 leaders who received remuneration in the first half of this year, alongside Deputy General Director Che Doan Vien (nearly 709 million VND). The remaining leaders, including Chairman of the Board of Directors Le Phuong Thao, did not receive any remuneration or income during the period.

Joining Yeah1 in February 2023 in the role of developing premium content – reality TV shows, Ms. Van Hanh was appointed as General Director in mid-September, replacing Mr. Dao Phuc Tri. She has more than 24 years of experience in the field of business and communications, having held important positions at Lasta Media Group and Cat Tien Sa.

The amount Ms. Hanh received in the first 6 months of this year is equivalent to two-thirds of the whole year of 2023. If it remains the same in the second half of the year, the total income of Yeah1 CEO will be 3 billion VND, higher than the average income of general directors at public companies in the market, according to reports by FiinGroup and FiinRatings.

According to the report, CEOs at public companies in the media industry similar to Yeah1 have a total annual income of about 1.7 billion VND, a low level compared to the general market level. Meanwhile, businesses with capitalization under 3,500 billion VND like YEG have an average annual salary of 1.2 billion VND for their general directors.

Ms. Hanh received a large salary after the TV show “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” aired from the end of June and created a great buzz. The show was invested by Yeah1 and produced by its subsidiary 1 Production. In which, Ms. Van Hanh plays the role of general director – the person who directly supervises the production work and has the right to decide everything.

After airing, “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” topped the viewership ratings on VTV3, attracting millions of views per episode, with many performances trending on YouTube. The content and songs were also discussed extensively on social networks and media.

In the first half of the year, Yeah1 recorded about VND280.6 billion in revenue, double that of the same period in 2023. The company made a profit of more than VND20.5 billion, more than double that of the first half of last year. The above figure is a few billion higher than the total profit in 2022 and 2023. The management said that revenue and profit are expected to increase in the second half of the year because this is the peak period of the entertainment industry and their two shows aired at the same time are the show “Anh trai vuon ngan cong gai” and “Chi dep dap gio” season 2.

Yeah1 is one of the few media companies listed on the HoSE. This company had a period of decline, losing hundreds of billions of VND due to the incident of YouTube stopping cooperation and the impact of Covid-19. After that, they pivoted to multi-channel commercial investment with the Giga1 platform and Tan Hiep Phat but quickly “broke up”. YEG continuously transferred subsidiaries, restructured, and sought ways to escape losses to avoid delisting its shares.

Last year, the company found its way and identified producing high-quality programs as its top strategy. CEO Ngo Thi Van Hanh shared with VnExpress on the sidelines of its annual meeting in May that it would invest heavily and “bet all in” on two key programs.
