UAE State Railways to Build Rail Network for Jordan

UAE-owned rail company Etihad Rail has signed a deal with Jordan’s transport ministry to build a modern freight rail network in the kingdom.

The company will be developing the construction plan and overseeing the implementation of the project, which is not expected to be completed until 2030. Tenders for the construction will be published in 2026.

In total, it is planned to lay 360 kilometers of railways that will connect Jordan’s only port, Aqaba, with potash and phosphate deposits.

It is worth noting that Jordan currently uses the outdated Hejaz Railway, built at the beginning of the last century. The construction of new railways in Jordan was, among other things, in the plans to create a transport corridor between India and Israel through the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
