Taylor Swift reigns supreme at the MTV Music Video Awards with seven awards

Taylor Swift climbed to the Olympus of awards this Wednesday MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) equaling the record of 30 statuettes that he has accumulated Beyoncé and, although she was the absolute winner of the night, she shared the spotlight with another pop star, Katy Perry.

Perry exultantly accepted the award from her husband, actor Orlando Bloom, whom she thanked for “washing the dishes,” said that her two decades of success had not happened by “accident,” and advised young artists to be true to themselves and “take care of their mental health.”

The best new artist was Chappell Roannicknamed ‘the princess of the American Midwest’, who recreated a medieval scene to sing ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, dressed in armour, and dedicated her achievement to trans, drag and gay people, and to ‘queers’: “I understand you, because I am one of you,” she said.

For its part, Sabrina Carpenterwho rose to fame as a Disney actress with the series ‘Girl Meets World’, won her first award, for best song of the year, for ‘Espresso’.

There was a succession of ‘flashbacks’ to the 40th anniversary of the VMAs: as in 2000, Eminem surrounded himself with imitators including ‘the Real Slim Shady’, while the young Carpenter evoked the famous kiss between Madonna y Britney Spears from 2003 planting one on an alien.

Benson Boonewho jumped from TikTok to American Idol, was crowned best alternative artist with ‘Beautiful Things,’ and South African Tyla, who won with ‘Water’ in the ‘afrobeats’ category, claimed that African music is very “diverse” and can also be “pop.”

In addition, the strength of K-Pop transcended its own category, which was won by Thailand’s Lisa, as two South Korean bands won in the best group and best performance categories: Seventeen y The Seraphimrespectively.

In Latin music, the Brazilian Anitta swept the board for the third consecutive year thanks to ‘Mil tiempos’, and was part of the performances alongside Raw Alejandro, Karol G o Camila Cabello.
