G7 Culture on September 20 and 21 in Naples, focus on Ai, support for Ukraine and fight against art trafficking

The meeting of the G7 culture ministers, in the framework of the Italian Presidency of the group, will be held on September 20 and 21, at the Royal Palace of Naples. The Ministry of Culture confirmed this in a note, announcing the summit program. After seven years – it says – Italy is once again bringing together those responsible for cultural policies of the G7 governments to find common answers to the main challenges of the sector on the basis of shared principles and values.

Support for Ukraine in the protection and reconstruction of its cultural heritage, the impact of artificial intelligence on creative industries, the fight against illicit trafficking of works of art and the management of the effects of climate change on cultural heritage will be at the centre of the Ministers’ debate on the first day of work, 20 September. The following day, the G7 will meet with the Presidency and the Commission of the African Union and other international partners on the opportunities offered by culture for the sustainable development of the continent, with the aim of promoting collaboration and training activities for the benefit of African cultural institutions. The debate, introduced by the speeches of the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, will be attended by Ministers and representatives of Brazil (G20 presidency), India and Greece and the leaders of UNESCO, Iccrom and the African Development Bank.

On the sidelines of the working sessions, on September 19, the G7 delegations will visit the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and attend a performance by young artists from the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Naples, while on September 20, they will be at the Pompeii Archaeological Park, where the Amphitheater will host a concert by the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti, conducted by Maestro Beatrice Venezi. The program of the Ministerial Culture – the Mic note continues – was illustrated by Minister Alessandro Giuli in detail, in a meeting held yesterday evening at the Viminale, to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and to the Chief of Police – Director General of Public Security, Vittorio Pisani.
