Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron in Brittany for Heritage Days

The French President and his wife will travel to Perros-Guirec this Friday, September 20, alongside presenter Stéphane Bern for the 41e edition of the European Heritage Days.

They will get a big breath of fresh air. Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte as well as the host Stéphane Bern, in charge of the Heritage Mission, will go to Île aux Moines, off the coast of Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d’Armor), on Friday, as part of the 41e edition of the European Heritage Days, the Élysée announced on Wednesday.

Located in the Sept-Îles archipelago, the island has a system of fortifications established in the 18th century.e century, fully listed since 2024, which includes a fort, barracks and a lighthouse. The restoration of the fort and barracks will begin in the fall thanks to aid of 350,000 euros from the Heritage Lottery, the presidency said.
For its part, the Conservatoire du littoral will restore the lighthouse in 2025 to transform it into a scientific lodge. The island, like the entire archipelago, also constitutes a rich reserve of biodiversity.

Since Emmanuel Macron’s arrival at the Élysée in 2017, the launch of the Mission Bern and the creation of the Heritage Lottery have helped 950 sites by mobilizing more than 280 million euros, according to the presidency.

In 2023, the presidential couple chose to go to the Notre-Dame collegiate church in Semur-en-Auxois (Côte-d’Or) and in 2022 to Guéret (Creuse) whose Italian-style theatre will also be renovated with the help of the Heritage Lottery.

As every year, the Élysée Palace will also open its doors on Saturday and Sunday for the Heritage Days. The 10,000 visitors expected will be able to follow a tour including the Salle des Fêtes, the Winter Garden, the Grand Staircase and the Golden Salon, the historic office of the Presidents of the Fifth Republic.e Republic.
