The historic Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena is once again open to visitors

In Siena, the historic Palazzo delle Papesse is open to visitors again. The building, built in the second half of the 1400s by order of Caterina Piccolomini, sister of Pope Pius II, had been closed since 2008 (with the exception of a brief interlude for an exhibition organized by The Dali’ Universe, hosted from 2020 to 2023), but now it returns to new life with the exhibition ‘Julio Le Parc. The discovery of perception. Works from 1958 to the present’.

“In addition to the visit to the Renaissance palace, with its courtyard and terrace, which will end with the spectacular panoramic view of Siena from the altana, it will be possible to admire the works on display by the great contemporary master, created between 1958 and 2024 and which are the fruit of Julio Le Parc’s continuous research on movement, color, light, and emblematically illustrate his particular approach to creation and the world of art”, explain the organizers.

The one on the Argentine artist will be the first of the major exhibition events and will be open to visitors from September 13. For 2025, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the first Siena exhibition and thirty years after the death of Hugo Pratt, a major exhibition dedicated to the cartoonist and writer “father” of Corto Maltese is planned. The Palazzo delle Papesse was acquired last June by Opera Laboratori.
