Disney +: streaming platform ends free account sharing

News that will displease many profiteers. While Disney + announced the end of free account sharing in June, it has finally been effective since Thursday, September 26 for all of its subscribers, including in France.

Like Netflix in May 2023, the SVOD platform will now charge its users who wish to share their password and therefore their account with people who do not live in the same household as the account holder. As soon as the platform detects a profiteer, it will block access to the profile and invite them to pay a subscription.

In a press release, Disney + sells this new feature as an “expansion” of “its paid sharing program to offer its users ways to enjoy their Disney + subscription with a family member or friend, thanks to the management of devices within a home. “These features and capabilities are now available in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region after launching in select markets over the summer,” adds the gaming giant. streaming.

To continue to benefit their loved ones or for those who want to add a person outside their household to their Disney + subscription, they will have to pay for the “additional member” option for an additional 6.99 euros per month for those with a classic subscription, and 10.99 euros for those with Disney + Premium. However, it is only possible to add one additional user per subscription.

 

If you are traveling and you see the message “this TV does not appear to be in the household for this account”, you can choose between two options: “I have left the house”, or “put update the household” if you have recently moved. “These selections will require a one-time access code that will be sent to the email address associated with the account,” Disney+ says.

The platform also specifies that additional member status is “not available for subscribers billed through our partners at the moment”, which means that for subscribers going through MyCanal or your operator, this option is not available. not yet available.

 

For people who took advantage of their loved one’s subscriptions and who now want to subscribe to the platform, they can ask the holder of the account they were using to transfer their old profile to the new subscription to keep the history and settings Disney+ viewing of this profile, with the exception of minors’ profiles and those configured in Junior mode.
