Tampere Tullikamar’s Pakkahuone and club will be closed for renovation in 2025.
The building was completed in 1901 and served as a cultural center since the 1980s.
The renovation will take two years and still requires the approval of the city council.
Live music will be moved to Tavara Station during the renovation, says Tero Viikari.
Finland The Pakkahuone and club of Tampere’s Tullikamar, one of the most famous live music venues, is closing for a long renovation.
The red brick building next to the railway station was completed in 1901. It has served as a music-focused cultural center since the 1980s. The building is owned by the city of Tampere, and according to the city’s plans, it is planned to start a two-year renovation at the beginning of next year.
The renovation project still needs the final approval of the city council, but the Tampere Chamber of Culture, which runs the activities of Pakkahuone and the club, is prepared for the fact that the building will end at the turn of the year.
The Tampere Chamber of Culture is also responsible for the operation of the adjacent Tavaraasema as a concert venue. Chairman of the board of the company Tero Viikari says that after the renovation of Pakkahuone starts, live music will be concentrated in the Tavara-asema hall. In both places, the hall can accommodate 1,200 listeners.
Helsinki live music venues operating regularly in the center have decreased over the years, but there have been enough of them in Tampere.
Now, due to the renovation of Tullikamari, there will be a shortage in the supply in the smaller size class, because not only Pakkahuone, but also Tullikamari’s club space is closed. The live music space at Tampere’s student hall has also been closed due to renovations for a long time.
“After this, there will only be one club that attracts 300-500 people,” says Viikari.
“There is no oversupply of live music here.”
In addition to the biggest domestic artists, numerous international successful artists including The Ramones, Black Sabbath and Motörhead have performed at Tullikamar’s Pakkahuone over the years.
The last concerts and events of Pakkahuone and the club will be held in December.
