Pierre Christin, the screenwriter of Valérian, is dead

DISAPPEARANCE – The father, with Jean-Claude Mézières on the drawing, of the famous science fiction series died this morning, at the age of 86, announced Dargaud editions.

A big name in comics has left. Writer, journalist and comic strip scriptwriter, Pierre Christin, born in 1938, died Thursday morning at the age of 86, Dargaud editions announced. A prolific author, he left behind a considerable body of work.

The ninth art owes it, among other things, the famous science fiction series Valeriancreated in 1967 with Jean-Claude Mézières as designer. Translated into around twenty languages, Valerian is an absolute reference in the genre, having inspired numerous authors and directors, including George Lucas and Luc Besson who directed a film adaptation in July 2017: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

With Enki Bilal, he tried his hand at political comics. The Phalanxes of the Black Order (Dargaud, 1979) or Hunting party (Dargaud, 1983) belong to the list of great classics of comics. With Annie Goetzinger, he imagines more sensitive and intimate stories, like The Maid of the Legion of Honor or from Paquebot.
