Rome under lockdown for the pro-Palestine demonstration, already 1,600 checked and 19 arrested

It is a Rome in ‘war’ mode with the police forces deployed, since this morning, on Via Ostiense, which is preparing to face the unauthorized pro-Palestine demonstration, scheduled for the early afternoon of today, two days after the first anniversary of October 7, the day of the Hamas attack on Israel.

As far as we know, 1,600 people have been checked so far and 19 have been taken to the police station to assess their position for the purposes of a possible deportation order.

 

Since this morning, targeted checks have been in place at motorway toll booths and in stations, a security device in increasingly stringent concentric circles around the area of ​​the Ostiense station as requested by the new police commissioner of Rome, Roberto Massucci, who was immediately called to a challenge difficult. Maximum attention will be paid to intercept any violent infiltrators.

Social media is also under scrutiny in these hours, in particular those relating to anarchist environments and university collectives. “There is a ban and it must be enforced”, explained the commissioner during a presentation meeting to the press. The Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union and the Palestinian Youth confirmed on social media the appointment on Saturday at 2 pm in Piramide even after the TAR’s ruling which rejected their appeal.
